Problems that a Web Hosting Company Must Face

Many years ago when the internet was started and gave access to the world a new business opportunity arose which is that one of web hosting. As the word host states this service is the one that allows a domain or website reside in a server that is connected to the internet and therefore made available to the world.

web hosting problemsWith the increase of internet use and access over the years there has been an increasing demand for hosting services. There are hundreds if not thousands of different web hosting providers all over the world who provide the service. There are many different types of hosting services some of them are free web hosting, shared hosting, reseller hosting, collocation hosting, VDS, dedicated hosting, grid hosting, managed hosting, cloud hosting, and clustered hosting. Each one of them has different features, prices, and limitations. The customer has to decide which one is the one they need and then they can contact the provider in order to sign up for the service. It is very important to always read the terms of service in order to be aware and conscious of what the service will consist of.

It might not sound complicated at first but the truth is that with the growing number of customers the web hosting companies face different problems day by day in regards to the service. One of the most common problems that they face is when they oversell hosting slots. This means that they sell plans that cannot be sustained because all of their customers are making full use of the services. This affects the web space and bandwidth allowance and translates to poor service. As it is expected if this happens the customers will overflow the web host with calls, e-mails, or IMs in order to get the problem resolved.

This leads to the next problem that these companies face. A lot of times they don’t have enough customer support representatives to handle all the inquiries and complaints that they receive from their customers. They might not have enough representatives because they do not have enough of a budget to employ as many as they need. Which, in some cases they decide to outsource the customer support department by opening call centers in other areas of the world such as India. This leads to another problem because many times there are communication gaps between the customer and the representative leading to the dissatisfaction of the customer who at the end might desist and decide to terminate their contract.

In some cases the web host provider might not have total access to the control panel in order to resolve issues. For example if a user is wanting them to check the firewall and see what is their IP they might not have access to that and won’t be able to provide them with the proper resolution.

Another problem that affects the web hosting providers is spamming email. There are surely many ways to try to prevent it however it is always coming in new ways and forms. When there is too much spamming it can flood the system with traffic that is definitely not necessary this can decrease the performance of the network which can affect the web sites that are residing in the servers.
